Verification tiers

What each label actually means.

A single word cannot honestly carry four different evidentiary standards. So there is no bare “verified” anywhere on this register. Every profile shows the highest tier it holds, and every tier says what was checked — and what was not.

Email-verifiedTier 1a

Live. Automatic, free.

Checked

This person controls a mailbox at the organization's own domain.

A sign-in link was sent to the address and used.

Not checked

That the organization vouches for them, or that they hold the stated role. Anyone with access to that mailbox could clear this bar.

Company-vouchedTier 1b

Live. Automatic, free. Re-checked daily.

Checked

The organization itself published a record on its own domain naming this person and role. Doing so requires the company's DNS or web administrator.

A DNS TXT record or a /.well-known file on the company domain names this handle. It is re-checked daily.

Not checked

That a government-issued identity matches this person, or that an official registry lists the role.

Role confirmedTier 2Not yet available

Not yet available. Nobody holds this tier and the register cannot issue it today. It needs registry matching beyond the one registry we read.

Checked

An official company registry or filing lists this person in this role.

Matched against a public corporate registry.

Not checked

That the person operating this profile is the individual named in the registry.

Identity confirmedTier 3Not yet available

Not yet available. Nobody holds this tier and the register cannot issue it today. It needs an identity-verification provider, which is not connected.

Checked

A government-issued identity document and a live face check were matched to the person who controls this profile.

Document and liveness verification through an identity provider.

Not checked

Anything about the specific request you received. Use Challenge to confirm that.

Things that are never claimed

  • Photos. Photo is self-provided and has not been checked against any document.
  • Any specific message. A tier describes the person's record, not the email or call you received. Only a challenge speaks to a specific request.
  • Good conduct. Being on the register says who someone is, not that they are trustworthy.

How a tier can go down

Company vouches are re-checked every day. If the record disappears for seven consecutive checks, the entry drops back to Email-verified. All records expire after twelve months unless re-confirmed. An executive can retire their entry at any time; the page then says so.
